A 31-year-old woman, allegedly armed with a handgun and ammunition, has been arrested after evading police in several Okanagan communities.
On Tuesday, a Penticton police officer observed a silver Ford Explorer driving dangerously in the north end of town.
Police said they soon realized that the vehicle had been reported stolen from a property in Summerland in late January.
Police said the vehicle fled when they tried to pull it over.
Given the erratic driving, police decided to terminate the pursuit and instead alerted other officers in the area to be on the lookout for the suspect vehicle.
Soon after, the vehicle was once again observed driving dangerously through the city but despite efforts to contain the area, the driver managed to flee to Okanagan Falls where again efforts to safely contain the dangerous driving were unsuccessful.
The vehicle was then spotted by officers in Keremeos who attempted to use a spike belt to stop it but the driver managed to avoid it and continued driving, according to police.
Police then dispatched a helicopter to the area to track down the suspect vehicle, which was eventually spotted in the Apex Mountain area.
Police were dispatched to the scene and found the vehicle stuck in the snow on an occupied rural property, where they managed to make an arrest.
Police said the suspect, a woman named Jodi Kornelsen, was allegedly in possession of a handgun, ammunition and paraphernalia for disguises.
She is said to have a lengthy criminal record and police said she is known to frequent Kelowna and Calgary.
Kornelsen was scheduled to appear in Provincial Court on Thursday.
