Manitoba RCMP are asking for the public’s help finding a man accused of neglecting a dog and her puppies.

They’re looking for 46-year-old John Gerald Glen Linklater from Black Sturgeon Falls First Nation in relation to a dog and her pups who were found by police on Feb. 7.

RCMP said officers found the mother dog and her five puppies locked up in a house in the community and that the owner had been gone for about three weeks. Police said two of the puppies were found dead and one died later. Police said the dogs had no access to food or water and all contracted a skin infection.

“The conditions these dogs survived in were pretty horrific,” said Sgt. Kyle McFadyen, Lynn Lake RCMP Detachment Commander.

“When we first opened the door, I wasn’t sure what we were going to find. I’m glad we got there in time to save some of them. For a dog who had obviously not received much care and affection, the mother dog was friendly with us when we got there – almost like she knew we were there to help.”

Linklater is facing charges for causing unnecessary suffering and injury to animals.

Anyone with information is asked to contact RCMP at 204-356-8862 or Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-8477.
