Just after 8 p.m., a member of Port Mann Traffic Services pulled over a car driving westbound for excessive speeding.
IIO said a male driver is believed to have exited the vehicle, jumped over the barrier to eastbound traffic and was struck by a vehicle.
The man was transported to hospital and is in serious condition, IIO said.

RCMP had the highway was closed eastbound for several hours and was reopened at 1:30 a.m.

The Independent Investigations Office (IIO), which is automatically called when police actions result in death or serious injury, is investigating, but no further details have been released.
