Human rights complaint being filed over Merry Christmas bus messages

SASKATOON – The man behind a complaint to city hall over Merry Christmas being displayed on transit buses is taking his complaint to the human rights commission.

Ashu Solo said he is left with no choice after the executive committee took no action on his complaint.

On Monday, the committee received a report from the city’s cultural, diversity and race relations group.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The group failed to make a decision or recommendation on how to proceed with the issue and passed the matter back to the committee.

The committee accepted the report as information only, meaning there will be no changes and Merry Christmas will remain on city buses.

Solo said he believes the committee caved into public backlash over the issue and is proceeding with his complaint to the human rights commission.

He plans on filing the complaint on March 4, the month the city has named as cultural, diversity and race relations month.
