It’s raining, it’s pouring and it’s going to get even more wet.
Environment Canada’s rainfall warning remains in effect for Metro Vancouver, Howe Sound and northern sections of the Fraser Valley near Hope.
More than 45 millimeters of rain has already been reported since yesterday morning when Environment Canada issued its first weather warning this week. Another 50 to 70 millimeters is expected by Thursday.
Localized flooding and poor road conditions are expected and drivers are warned to take caution when out on the wet and slippery roads.
ICBC says hydroplaning can occur during periods of heavy rain, which is when the driver loses control of steering and braking because the tires begin to float on a film of water. Drivers can prevent hydroplaning by reducing their speed when driving through large puddles. If hydroplaning occurs ICBC says “don’t brake — decelerate and drive straight.”
Environment Canada says the increased rain is due to a band of tropical moisture moving across the province.
The rain is expected to taper off by Thursday with a few showers in the morning.
