Some of the people who direct traffic in Okanagan construction zones are holding a rally this Saturday.
Rally co-organizer, Allison Morris, says flaggers will gather at about 9:30 a.m. along Highway 97 near downtown Vernon.
They’re showing their support for a flag person who was struck by a car Friday on Highway 6 in Lavington.
The woman, who has 37 years experience at the job, was taken by helicopter to hospital where she remains in critical but stable condition with head injuries.
The incident happened on her 66th birthday.
Police are investigating and the 75-year-old car driver could face charges.
The flaggers also want to draw awareness to the dangers they face on the job.
“We just want to be able to go home every night and not worry about it,” says Morris.
“We get verbal abuse and that we can take that. But when you hear about somebody having to be air-lifted to hospital it really hits home.”
