EMS said the victim was in life-threatening condition when paramedics arrived on scene at about 7:30 a.m. He was taken to the Alberta Children’s Hospital.

The collision happened at the intersection of Dalhousie Drive and 54 Street N.W. near H.D. Cartwright School.

The Calgary Police Service traffic unit is investigating and said alcohol is not a factor. Police are investigating speed—whether it be related to road conditions or speed limit-related—as well as environmental factors such as glare from the sun, as the car was travelling east.

Police said the driver was a 38-year-old man.

Police said the roads were reopened just before noon.
