The 2018 London Sports Celebrity Dinner and Auction will have a special theme in February, as the annual fundraiser will celebrate trailblazing women in sports.

They announced their first guests during a news conference Wednesday and they definitely fit the bill.

Former WWE superstar Trish Stratus will headline the group. Stratus was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2013.

Chair Ryan Robinson says Stratus has not only had a long and storied wrestling career but has parlayed that into a successful fitness and yoga business.

Robinson says Stratus will be joined at the head table by the 2018 London Sportsperson of the year, Karen Phibbs.

“Karen has had a long involvement in all levels of hockey, currently she’s the President and CEO of the Ontario Hockey Association,” said Robinson. “It’s really exciting to include her because our theme this year will be celebrating trailblazing women in sports.”

Robinson says the dinner and auction will once again be in support of the Thames Valley Children Centre (TVCC).

“A lot of people don’t have the extra money for a $15,000 piece of equipment that will make a child’s life easier. At the TVCC, they will loan that equipment out to a client for however long they need it,” said Robinson.

“Whether they are just testing out a piece of equipment to later buy on their own, or the family just needs it to make life easier, they make that happen. That’s why our committee does what we do.”

The regional rehabilitation centre serves children and young adults with physical disabilities, communication disorders, developmental delays and autism spectrum disorder in southwestern Ontario.

Tickets are on sale online for the February 12th event at the London Convention Centre.

Robinson says more guests will be announced in December.
