The Votier’s Flats area of Fish Creek Park closed on Tuesday due to a black bear sighting had reopened as of Friday morning.

“The bear has been safely removed from the area and relocated,” Alberta Parks said in a Facebook post at around 11 a.m.

The day-use area, located east of MacLeod Trail and south of Canyon Meadows Drive, is popular for its trails and pathways along with picnic areas and views.

A spokesperson for Alberta Parks said Thursday the department had a trap set up in the park with the intent of catching and relocating the bear.

Tim Chamberlin said Friday the animal had been taken west to the Bragg Creek region.

Alberta Parks didn’t have information on the sex or age of the bear but said the conservation officer who helped with the transport said it appeared healthy.
