IN PHOTOS: Halloween 2017 in the Stollery Children’s Hospital

Spending Halloween in the hospital isn’t exactly a child’s dream come true, but some Edmonton health professionals made sure Oct. 31 was a blast for little patients this year.

On Tuesday, staff of the Stollery Children’s Hospital donned their cheeriest costumes and set up “pumpkin stops” in wards and hallways where kids could trick or treat.

“The families here are dealing with so much and the kids are dealing with so much,” said Lois Wolgemuth, manager of Child Life Services. “So every time we can celebrate with them and do something fun that brings us all together… it’s just a great thing to do.”

“This is awesome,” said Hailey Wautier, mother of four-year-old Lily. “We’ve never had to spend Halloween here, but we’ve spent lots of other holidays [here].”

“[Lily] has costumes at home and she wanted to go trick or treating with her dad… but I think she’ll forget now that she’s here and she’s having a good time.”

Patients were also treated to games, crafts and free costumes courtesy of customer donations to local Spirit Halloween stores.

About 150 children will spend Halloween in the Stollery.
