Donald Trump couldn’t ‘speak the children’s language,’ Ivana Trump says

U.S. President Donald Trump’s first wife says that he was unable to have real conversations with his children until they came home from college.

“He did not know how to speak the children’s language,” Ivana Trump told John Catsimatidis on AM970’s “The Answer.” “He was not able to do it until the kids came (home) from university and he could actually speak business with them.”

The interview surrounded Ivana Trump’s new book Raising Trump in which she details raising their three children, Ivanka, Donald Jr., and Eric, as well as her time with Donald Trump before he became president.

Ivana Trump was married to Donald Trump from 1977 to 1992.

“Me and Donald got the divorce when the kids were 6, 8 and 12 and I raised the kids on my own because I had total custody of my kids,” she said. “I raised them on my own because Donald was always busy and making the deals.”

“I told Donald that there can only one chef in the kitchen and it was me.”

Ivana Trump said that after college, the kids were turned over to Donald Trump.

“When the kids were 21 years old, I called Donald and I said ‘here’s the final product and now it is your job to continue,’” she said. “This is what we have done and it worked.”

Toward the end of the marriage, Ivana Trump said Donald Trump was considering a run at the presidency but the divorce nixed that idea.

“We talked about it 20 years ago and we probably could have done it then because President (Ronald) Reagan wrote Donald a letter and said you should run,” she explained. “So we were playing with the idea of becoming president but then we got the divorce and there was a scandal and Americans they loved me and they hated Donald so he would never really win, so he postponed it.“

Donald Trump’s ambitions to become president appear to have continued ever since.

Donald Trump was also said to be considering a run at the presidency as a Democrat a decade later, as actor Woody Harrelson recently detailed a dinner party the now-president organized in 2002.

Harrelson says he was invited to the New York shindig by Jesse Ventura, the professional wrestler-turned-politician who was reportedly being courted by Trump to join his ticket for the 2004 election.
