The Chase: 10-year-old’s highway joyride, killer whales and a runaway rabbit thrill Global News audiences

This week, Finance Minister Bill Morneau dug himself into a deeper hole, while consumers’ concerns over exploding sunroofs, possible igniting dishwashers and price markups at Sears’ liquidation sales proliferated. But the stories that really gave Global News audiences a thrill weren’t about embattled politicians or questionable products. Instead, they were unpredictable, caught-on-camera moments made of sheer courage, and in some cases, silliness.

10-year-old’s high-speed chase peeves polite readers

For the second time in two weeks, one 10-year-old Ohio boy has gone rogue, leading police on a high-speed chase. After stealing his mother’s car from their Cleveland home, the youngster led police on a Grand Theft Auto-style car chase, at times clocking 100 miles per hour. A Facebook video of dashcam footage from Ohio State Police shows patrol officers box in the renegade driver and remove him from the car.

But, the rebellion didn’t end when junior was ejected.

“He kicked one trooper in the shins, spit on one trooper and tried to spit on a few other troopers,” said a highway patrol officer.

The video was viewed more than half a million times on our Facebook page, and, of course, our readers had the best reactions to the blunder.

Our polite commenters lamented that when they were 10 years old they were getting into trouble for not saying hi to the guests. Gasp! How times have changed.

Not the kind of whale watching you wanna do

Speaking of wild, Global News audiences were on tinderhooks as these New Zealanders fled the ocean at the sight of a killer whale pod. 

While these orcas swam a little too close for comfort, a friend captured their beach-bound friends’ reactions as they go from excited to afraid.

“Get out of the water,” can be heard on the background of the video, which was watched almost half a million times on our social media handle.

An unlikely suspect leaves police pulling their hare out

Another police chase made headlines this week, but this time it was a wascally wabbit that had Massachusetts State cops scurrying along a highway.

And while the video didn’t break a record for number of views, if you were one of the almost 39,000 viewers, you gotta admit you were rooting for the runaway rabbit. Maybe just a little.
