Days after a local shopkeeper was attacked inside his store, regulars of Horton Variety are organizing a benefit concert in his name.
Police say 56-year-old Rajaie El Shorafa remains in critical condition following an assault at his store at 216 Horton Street on Saturday night.
As he is the sole shopkeeper of the store and unable to work, the store is closed indefinitely.
According to the event’s Facebook page the fundraiser aims to raise as much money as possible for El Shorafa and his family so they can focus on his recovery.
The benefit concert will take place Friday, Nov. 3 at 8 p.m. at Call The Office, and will feature six local bands, food from Shelby’s food express, as well as a possible raffle and 50/50 draw.
All proceeds will go to the El Shorafa family.
Meanwhile, police are still looking for the suspect wanted in Saturday’s assault.
Jessie Aaron McConnell, 22, is wanted for aggravated assault. Officers are warning the public that McConnell should not be approached, but to contact police if seen.
