The Independent Investigations Office of B.C. (IIO) has found no wrong doing by a Vancouver police officer (VPD) in a shooting at 29th Ave SkyTrain station late last year.
On Dec. 19, 2016, VPD confronted a man who had been reported carrying a “machete-like” weapon while on the SkyTrain. After breaking a train window to attempt to escape, the man was shot when he did not comply with the officers’ demands.
The man was detained, was given immediate surgery and did survive.
The investigation by the IIO looks at officer-related shootings that result in serious harm or death.
This investigation took 10 months and involved witness testimonies and CCTV footage.
