N.S. police find cache of weapons in home near Bridgewater schools

BRIDGEWATER, N.S. – Police in southwestern Nova Scotia say they found a large cache of weapons inside a man’s home Monday after they locked down two nearby schools.

The Bridgewater police had said yesterday they had seized a weapon from the man’s home, but they released more information Tuesday, saying their search uncovered eight long guns, including shotguns, rifles and an assault-style weapon.

Officers say they also found marijuana and cocaine inside the home.

Police chief John Collyer says a 40-year-old Bridgewater man remains in custody.

Bridgewater Elementary School and the nearby high school were locked down for more than an hour Monday after police warned school officials about a potential threat to the community.

However, police have said that at no point was there a direct threat to the two schools.
