Heading into Monday’s election, there were already strong indications this was going to be an election day unlike any other Calgary has experienced.

Record-breaking advance polls. A gorgeous fall day. An extremely tight mayor’s race. How could Elections Calgary not be ready for this?

How could polling stations run out of ballots? How could heavily populated communities have just one polling station?

Invariably, we’ll hear the conspiracy theories that this was all a ploy to hijack the vote; that some challengers’ supporters were left out of the process.

Those theories aside, the blame has to be placed at the feet of Elections Calgary.
