How many more family members of victims who have died on the Linc and the Red Hill Expressway does city council have to hear from before they finally understand that it’s time to make those roadways safer?

Tearful and sorrowful parents of those who have died on those roadways appeared before city councillors again yesterday and, at the end of their emotional presentations, council asked city staff to study the issue.
We don’t need more studies, we need action.
The first, and most obvious solution is to install barriers in the medians to prevent head-on collisions.
I’m tired of penny-pinching councillors telling us that barriers are an unnecessary expense.
Yes, people drive too fast on the Linc and the Red Hill and every other road for that matter, but that’s not going to change any time soon.
Yes, we need more enforcement and better lighting, but we also need to protect our citizens from vehicles careening across the median into oncoming traffic.
The QEW, the 403, the Gardiner Expressway in Toronto all have protective barriers to prevent head-on collisions.
Let’s not wait for the next unnecessary death on our roadways; build the barriers, and save lives.
