The Queen’s University hockey Gaels are off to strong start.
The Tri-colour won their first two games of the season: a 5-2 victory over Laurentian and a 4-0 shutout over the O.U.I.T Ridgebacks from Oshawa.
The Gaels are the defending Ontario University Eastern Conference champions. They lost the OUA title to the York Lions, so needless to say, they’ve got some unfinished business this season.
Brett Gibson’s club has a number of talented returning players like Kevin Bailie, Spencer Abraham, Eric Ming, Darcy Greenaway and Slater Doggett, but they also have some first-year players that will fit right in. They include former Ontario Hockey League stars Brandon Prophet, Patrick Sanvido, Nathan Billitier, Ben Fanjoy and Jaden Lindo.
Lindo played five years in the OHL with the Owen Sound Attack and Sarnia Sting. He chose Queen’s because of its Arts and Science program and the winning culture that surrounds the hockey team. ”
“It doesn’t get much better than a Queen’s degree and the hockey team is something I want to be a part of, ” said the 21-year-old from Brampton.
“The boys qualified for the national’s last year in Moncton, New Brunswick and I believe I can help them get back there again.”
It’s early in the season but Queen’s is currently ranked 6th in the country. The Alberta Golden Bears are number one followed by Saskatchewan, New Brunswick, St.Francis Xavier and the McGill Redmen from Montreal.
