Kelowna Rockets lose another

The Portland Winterhawks defeated the Kelowna Rockets 8-2 on Sunday evening at the Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Portland.

Portland opened the scoring with first period goals from Mason Mannek(2), Kieffer Bellows(5), and Jake Gricius(2). They took a 3-0 lead into the first intermission.

The Winterhawks collected two second period goals from Skyler McKenzie(9,10) and another from Kieffer Bellows(6). Gordie Ballhorn(1) got the Rockets on the board before the period was out. Winterhawks held a 6-1 lead heading into the final frame.

Portland scored twice more in the third before Kyle Topping(5) scored a late power play marker to bring the final score to 8-2 in favour of the Winterhawks.

Brodan Salmond’s record falls to 3-3-0-1 as he made 10 saves on 13 shots before James Porter came in in his relief. Porter stopped 20 of 26 shots he faced.

Kelowna’s record falls to 4-3-1-1 on the season.

The Rockets now head to Kennewick, WA for a Tuesday night meeting with the Tri-City Americans. Puck drop for that one is at 7:05pm.

The Rockets are at home again on Friday, October 20th, and again on Saturday, October 21st, when they host the Portland Winterhawks on back-to-back nights at Prospera Place.
