Hamilton police have set up a command post as the Homicide Unit investigates.

Detective Sergeant Peter Thom says there was no sign of forced entry into the unit. He says two men were at the doorway, there was an interaction and shots were fired.

The men, only described as one being taller than the other, ran eastward down Barton Street.

Thom says it appears this was a targeted attack and he has no fears the general public is in any danger.

He would not confirm earlier reports the woman had been shot in the face, saying a cause of death would follow an autopsy,  scheduled for Tuesday.
