Theatre Aquarius in downtown Hamilton has unveiled a revamped facade aimed at improving the visitor experience.
It’s part of the audience accessibility project.
Theatregoers will now be met with a bright video marquee scrolling across an extended canopy that has been added to provide more cover from the elements.
The area in front of the building along King William Street has also be extended so that community members with wheelchairs or other mobility devices can be dropped off in a barrier-free space with a set of automatic doors.
General manager, Lorna Zaremba, says there is still more work to be done inside the theatre.
Phase two of the project will involve widening the doors to the auditorium, adjusting the box office and creating more wheelchair specific seats.
The Government of Canada provided more than $535,000 for the first phase of upgrades.
Zaremba says the theatre will be looking to fundraise $271,000 for the remaining work.
