“Anytime anyone commits a robbery we’re obviously concerned for their behaviour and he is considered to be quite dangerous,” Detective Jay Finn said. “This is obviously a crime of desperation.”

The robbery, and information provided to police from bank employees led to another dramatic scene just a stone’s throw from the bank itself, at a Bagot Street apartment building where Behan resides.

“They were telling everyone to stay in their apartments,” Building superintendent Mike Taylor said. “I mean, the SWAT team had their long-guns out.”

Multiple police units were stationed outside the apartment building for about an hour and a half, including tactical officers with their weapons drawn and pointed at a single unit, while other officers directed pedestrian and vehicle traffic away from the scene.

Police say they’ve received several tips on Behan’s whereabouts since releasing his name and image to the public.

They have also reached out to Police Departments in neighbouring communities in the event he’s managed to leave Kingston.

“It’s definitely possible,” Detective Finn said. “He did obtain an amount of money from the bank, and could possibly have fled the city.”

Behan is described as approximately 5′ 8”, 210 pounds, balding with a beard. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to contact Kingston Police.
