Montreal Alouettes help serve Thanksgiving dinner at Welcome Hall Mission

After a loss to the Edmonton Eskimos eliminated their playoff hopes on Monday, several players from the Montreal Alouettes turned their focus towards giving back to their community.

Players were on hand to help serve Thanksgiving dinner to hundreds of less fortunate Montrealers at the Welcome Hall Mission.

The event is an important one for those who use the mission.

“It’s a great opportunity for [attendees] to experience community, which they don’t often experience,” Welcome Hall Mission CEO Sam Watts said.

About 10 players were on hand to take part in the annual event.

The dinner service is something the team has been doing for over a decade.

“These are our people,” said Montreal Alouettes linebacker Kyries Hebert. “They expect us to be here, and we’ve been a part of it for so long. We don’t want to let them down.”

Francis Ouellet was one of those in attendance and said he couldn’t help but feel “very, very happy.”

“It’s my first Thanksgiving here and this mission helped me very much,” he said.
