The true spirit of Thanksgiving was on display in Peterborough on Monday at Wimpy’s Diner on Landsdowne Street as volunteers helped serve 350 meals for the holiday.

“We’re just being so thankful to Peterborough to let us serve them… and we are really thankful and [want to] show our thankfulness to the community [by] giving the opportunity for the less fortunate to have a Thanksgiving meal with us,” said Wimpy’s Diner owner Bonnie Zaman.

The restaurant has only been open for nine months, but put up $2,000 for the Thanksgiving effort so it could give back to the community.

Wimpy’s owners partnered with local non-profit Small Change PTBO for the event. The group helped promote Wimpy’s initiative through social media and postering downtown locations like the bus terminal and the food bank, trying to reach those who might want to come into the diner for Thanksgiving.

More than 15 volunteers donated their time to help the event run smoothly, and given its success, Zaman hopes to do it all again next year.
