After more than a week of daily meetings, the union representing striking workers at Ingersoll’s Cami plant say they’re still “far apart” from General Motors on key issues.
A statement from Unifor Local 88 says the two parties have agreed to take a break until Tuesday, Oct. 10 — after the Thanksgiving weekend — to allow for the employer to convene with its parent company, GM Detroit.
The union says it will meet over the weekend if there is a need, however.
“We remain far apart on economics and job security, and await a response from GM Detroit on these outstanding issues,” a statement from the union said. “In the event GM Detroit responds sooner, we have made it clear that the Master Bargaining Committee, and our Unifor national representatives, are available to meet at a moment’s notice.”
The two sides of the negotiation have been in continued contact, and have worked through other parts of contract language, Unifor’s statement said.
Cami workers have been on strike since September 17th, when they walked off the job to fight for, among other concerns, assurances that manufacturing of the Chevrolet Equinox will continue at the Ingersoll plant and not be further outsourced to facilities in Mexico.
