The province is handing out $500,000 in grant money to help local growers expand their businesses.
“We invest in the farm and the broader agriculture food industry to allow these farm operations to be more competitive,” MPP Jeff Leal said.
One of the grant recipients is Peterborough-area Millar’s Farms.

The Keene-area egg producer is using its $6,000 to pay for an expanded storage facility on its Serpent Mounts Road farm.
Millar’s Farms has been operating for six generations. Co-owner Bonnie Clarke says the money helps ensure the farm will stay in the family for at least a few generations more.
“With the expansion, it gives our children the opportunity to continue this legacy and our grandchildren as well,” Clarke said.
The new space allows Millar’s Farms to store more graded eggs. Clarke estimates that it will result in a $36,000 sale increase.
