Well, 50 actually.

The non-profit agency needs more community resource workers (CRWs) because it’s expanding.

“The growth areas are in a number of our programs,” said Kim McCullough, director of organizational effectiveness for DDRC.

They include the centre’s employment program, which is the PACE program, community access programs, “our home-based services programs, so that’s integrated living services and in comp-care, so the services that we deliver for children.”

The most important quality they’re looking for in potential candidates is passion.

“We don’t look at our candidates just for experience and education, what we’re looking for is that passion, is that creativity, drive, and the desire to want to support individuals with developmental disabilities,” McCullough said.

Maria Morales, a community resource worker at DDRC for the past four-and-a-half years, said it’s rewarding watching people grow and succeed.

“It’s a satisfaction that you feel. You feel that, ‘Wow, I helped an individual achieve their goal.’ It might take months or years, but you’re working into progress, taking time, and it just makes you feel like, ‘Wow, I was a part of that person’s life,’” Morales said.

“You’re making a difference in somebody’s life – making sure they have a quality life.”

DDRC is holding a job fair Saturday, Sept. 23 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the DDRC offices at 4646 Sarcee Road S.W.

As many as 500 applicants are expected to attend.
