UPDATE: The charge against the suspect was withdrawn in January 2018, according to Alberta Justice. The Crown Prosecutors’ Office said the Crown determined the case did not meet the prosecution standard of reasonable likelihood of conviction. Calgary police have arrested a man wanted in connection with a sexual assault in the Downtown West End last month.
Police said a man entered a building in the 1100 block of 6 Avenue S.W. at around 12:40 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 29.
Once inside, police allege he “sexually touched” a resident without consent.
Police released photos of a man believed to be connected with the investigation on Sept. 6, and on Thursday announced information from the public led to a suspect being identified and subsequently charged.
“Investigators believe this was a random attack, as the victim and the suspect are not known to one another,” police said in a news release.
A Calgary man was taken into custody on Sept. 19. He was charged with break and enter to commit sexual assault and was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, Oct. 4.
