Fraser Health recalls ‘Original Kulfi’ ice cream produced in unlicensed Surrey facility

Fraser Health has issued a recall of “Original Kulfi,” a product manufactured by Surrey, B.C.-based company Supreme Ice Cream.

It turns out Supreme Ice Cream isn’t actually allowed to make ice cream, only sell it.

“This individual was conducting a business that he wasn’t approved for and it was being done in his garage,” said Jeet Gill with Fraser Health.

He said the facilities had no washing facilities close by and none of the sanitation plans were approved.

“This is a potentially hazardous product and the potential for cross-contamination in terms of his handling existed so that’s why this public safety warning was issued to everyone.”

Gill said the owner promised he would stop making the product immediately.

He said that even though there is a contamination risk, no illness related to the product has been reported yet.
