The Sûreté du Québec is asking for the public’s help in identifying a potential witness in connection with a homicide in Saint-Eustache on Thursday.
In a news release posted on Sunday, police said the homicide is linked to a case of parental abduction that happened on the same day.
An Amber Alert was issued in Quebec after a six-year-old boy vanished from the family home.
The boy’s father, 41, was apprehended in Ontario nearly 24 hours later in company of the child, who was unharmed.
The suspect is believed to have made his way from Quebec to Ontario, via Maniwaki and Rouyn-Noranda, Que.
Police said he was spotted in Rouyn-Noranda on the night of Sept. 15.
According to police, he was seen in the company of the “potential witness” — a man believed to be around 40 years old.
The man police are seeking to identify is described as standing five feet six inches tall and weighing 220 pounds. He has brown hair and blue eyes and a dark beard.
The suspect in the Amber Alert case is currently in an Ottawa-area hospital after suffering unspecified injuries while in custody of Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).
The man appeared in an Ontario court on Saturday morning and was to be transferred back to Quebec later in the day.
According to OPP spokesperson Carolle Dionne, he was taken to hospital for assessment and his transfer back to Quebec will depend on his medical evaluation.

Several SQ officers spent the weekend conducting a search for missing senior Yvon Lacasse, whose vehicle was used in the alleged abduction.
Efforts have been focused in the Lachute area, where the father’s vehicle was located. At the time of his arrest, the suspect was driving Lacasse’s vehicle.
The 71-year-old has yet to be found.
