Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Nova Scotia Premier Stephen McNeil will both attend a celebration of life for Allan J. MacEachen.
MacEachen was a long-serving Liberal MP and senator from Nova Scotia who died earlier this week at the age of 96.

MacEachen was born in Cape Breton and first elected in 1953.
He was one of Canada’s most powerful cabinet ministers of the post-war era, holding a variety of posts including labour minister while also serving twice as secretary of state for external affairs. MacEachen also served a term as minister of national health and welfare from 1965-1968 during the creation of medicare. MacEachen served as deputy prime minister and was appointed to the Senate in 1984.

A celebration of the life will be held Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Charles V. Keating Centre at St. Francis Xavier University in Antigonish.
Trudeau and McNeil are each expected to deliver remarks at the service.
