62-year-old woman dead in Hochelaga-Maisonneuve apartment fire

A 62-year-old woman has died from smoke inhalation in a Hochelaga-Maisonneuve apartment fire early Thursday morning.

Montreal firefighters received a call around 6:30 a.m. about a fire in a five unit three-storey building on Bourbonniere Street the city’s east end.

“Two families were evacuated from the building, and nobody else was injured,” said Montreal fire department spokesperson Martin Vaillancourt.

Montreal firefighters said that the fire started on the third floor but the exact cause is not yet known.
