“Last year, we raised $16,000. It’s obviously a cause that affects so many people in the city and we’re trying to break the stigma” said race director David Dame. “We’re really excited there’s 300 runners this year. I know because I just counted them, and the numbers are up 25 per cent this year.”

Participants had the chance to run or walk a range of paths — 2.5 km, 5 km or 10 km — all to raise awareness and funds for the Canadian Mental Health Association and the YES Shelter for Youth and Family.

Though mental health is not often discussed, it’s something one in five Canadians experiences firsthand, every year.

All funds raised will support those who have attempted suicide or are struggling with depression.
