A local South Asian group held a protest Wednesday against what it calls India’s right-wing regime.
Indians Abroad for Pluralist India (IAPI) organizer Gurpreet Singh says Narendra Modi’s party has sparked a racist uprising – ultimately leading to the murder of journalist Gauri Lankesh.

“Immediately when the news came, what we saw on the social media was quite disturbing,” Singh said. “The supporters of the Modi government started attacking her and to some extent, they were justifying her murder.”
IAPI says Lankesh was “a well-known critic of growing violence by Hindu fundamentalists in India under a right-wing Modi government.”
Singh, who was born in India, said the political climate in the country has changed over the years and he is concerned about the rise of Hindu fundamentalism.
The group held the rally on Wednesday at Holland Park in Surrey.
