Ahead of Liberal caucus meetings in Kelowna Wednesday, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau spent time meeting Okanagan residents, including local firefighters who have been working tirelessly on historic floods and forest fires.
Trudeau spent time talking with firefighters, asking some about their efforts on current wildfires near Peachland and south of Princeton.
“To have the Prime Minister come out and acknowledge that, to take time out of his schedule to acknowledge that is awesome,” Randy Burgess with the B.C. Wildfire Service Penticton District said.
“A visit like this really is a boost at the end of the season,” Kelowna fire chief Travis Whiting said.
After greeting locals on downtown streets, Trudeau spent a few minutes in Global Okanagan’s TV studios before heading out for a hike on Knox Mtn.
Dozens of locals hiking the hill quickly gathered to stop the Prime Minister for a photo.
“We got a selfie with him that’s pretty awesome,” Kelowna resident Jacqueline Nybo said. “It’s on Instagram already.”
Trudeau will be part of a town hall meeting at UBC Okanagan Wednesday at 7 p.m.
