Kingston’s Lake Ontario Park served as a venue for St. Lawrence College orientation on Tuesday, as first-year students to become better acquainted with their new surroundings and classmates – in unconventional ways – like a game of bubble soccer.
“We want to show that we value the students here,” Kevin Briggs, Manager of Athletics and Student Life said.
“We want to show that there not just here to come to class get their diploma, get their degree, but there’s a lot more to it. We want to really make sure that their student experience while at the college is a positive one,” Briggs added.
Keeping things positive is key – as many students are leaving home for the first time, and orientation can help them become familiar with their new surroundings a little bit quicker.
“If students make a new friend get comfortable and get involved their academics actually benefit from that,” SLC Student Association Representative Jennie Perrin said.
Orientation provided a number of other team-building exercises, such as escaping a jail cell, and booths to sign up for the various clubs and services St. Lawrence College has to offer.
