The psychiatric patient apparently became aggressive and started grabbing her hair, throwing her to the floor and grabbing her throat.

According to police, another employee came to help the nurse, but was also injured.

“Security and attendants were called on the scene, neutralized the patient,” explained Richard Fahey, the MUHC’s Director of Public Affairs and Strategic Planning.

“Obviously, it was a dramatic event. We are providing support to both the nurse and the team in order for them to recoup.”

The commotion caught the attention of a third employee and security was called.

“The two victims are 34 and 44,” said Benoit Boisselle, a spokesperson with Montreal police.

“They will be OK. They’re out of danger, but they have upper body injuries due to the violence.”

The man is expected to appear in court Tuesday to face charges of aggravated assault and assault causing bodily harm.
