Vanessa Morgan will be joining Riverdale when the Archie comics-inspired mystery returns this fall with its second season, but the actress says that she’s already received a ton of negativity — including death threats — from fans upset that her character may scuttle the romance between Jughead and Betty (Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart, who are rumoured to be a couple in real life as well).

Morgan, a native of Ottawa, will play bisexual character Toni Topaz, with showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa telling ET that her arrival in Riverdale spells bad news for the Jughead-Betty romance.

“She’s a Southside Serpent, a gang member, and Jughead’s first friend,” Morgan says of Toni, who will meet Jug when he switches schools in the new season. “I might stir up the pot a bit with the Bughead relationship. There might be a little love triangle.”

Proving that Riverdale fans take the show seriously, Morgan says: “I’ve already had some death threats. But the thing is, it’s half death threats because they don’t want that [actually] happening, and there’s half that’s just all love.”

We’ll see a lot more of Morgan when Riverdale returns with season two on Oct. 11.
