Vancouver’s governing civic party is announcing its slate for school board ahead of October’s by-election and a number of familiar faces are throwing their hat in the ring.
Three Vision Vancouver school trustees, fired by the former BC Liberal government, will seek re-election next month to join the Vancouver School Board (VSB).
Former chair Mike Lombardi is one of them. He was first elected to serve on the board in November 2008 and he was elected chair in December 2015.
Also hoping to return is Joy Alexander, a retired teacher who was elected to the board in 2014.
Allan Wong is also running in the by-election in the hope of serving a seventh term as a trustee. He was first elected in 1999.
Ken Clement is also seeking a board seat. He ran successfully in 2008, making him the first Indigenous person elected in Vancouver.
He was re-elected in 2011 but lost in 2014 by a 255-vote margin.
Theodora Lamb, a new face, also hopes to serve on the board. Lamb currently serves on the Vancity board of directors and is a principal at Cicada Community Consulting.
She’s also a producer for Hollyhock’s Leadership Institute.

The Greens also unveiled the party’s school board candidates this week.
Former trustee Janet Fraser is hoping for re-election after she was won a board seat for the first time in 2014. She was also fired last year by former education minister Mike Bernier.
Meanwhile, fellow candidates Estrellita Gonzales and Judy Zaichkowsky are new faces to the political scene.
Gonzalez is a health and wellness consultant while Zaichkowsky is an educator.
The Non-Partisan Association (NPA) has yet to reveal the candidates looking to join the VSB.
The by-election is set to take place on Oct. 14.
