Over 250 lemonade stands will be set up across Alberta to sell the summer beverage and all proceeds from the stands will go to the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton.

Monita Chapman of Simply Supper told 630 CHED’s Ryan Jespersen Show with Shaye Ganam that the nearly 800 kids participating don’t have to pay a thing to set up their stands.

“We have a junior committee this year that works hard and we created kits for all of these stands,” Chapman said. “So all 257 stands came and picked up a kit and that kit was full of everything they need.

“They didn’t have to buy a thing for the stand. We gave them cups, lemonade, tablecloths, straws – the whole kit is full of things they need to run their stands.”

Chapman said that in the three previous years, they’ve raised over $75,000 for the Stollery.

She also said their goal this year is to buy two new pieces of equipment for the children’s hospital.

“Our junior committee chose, this year, that they wanted to help purchase two respiratory heart monitors for the Stollery,” Chapman said. “So our goal is to purchase two of those. They’re $55,000 dollars each and we’re working hard for that.”

However, Chapman added they don’t have a specific monetary goal so there’s no pressure on the kids selling the lemonade.

Chapman said the charity started after her kids had a lemonade stand outside of their house and raised $70. They wanted to donate that money to the Stollery.
