OPP Const. Max Gomez told AM980 it’s important homeowners be extra vigilant around family pools and open water.

“Backyard pools can provide many hours of summer fun, especially for children and families, but it can also be dangerous,” he said. “It’s just important that every homeowner who has a pool, in ground, above ground, or even inflatable kiddie pools, that they maintain them properly.”

Gomez said the family believed the boy was playing with siblings inside the house but when he wasn’t located, they checked the pool.

No charges are expected to be laid.
