Teen killed crossing street in Saint-Basile-le-Grand

A teenage girl was killed Thursday evening after she was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross the street.

Saint-Laurent/Richelieu police, were called to du Millénaire Boulevard in Saint-Basile-le-Grand at around 8:25 p.m.

Police said the girl, who is around 17-years-old, was crossing at a pedestrian walkway when she was hit.

She was rushed to hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Witnesses told police that the 21-year-old driver, who was heading towards Highway 116 on du Millénaire Boulverad, crossed the intersection on a green light.

He was not injured in the collision.

Police do not expect he will face any charges.
