Emergency crews who were on the scene of a serious car crash early Thursday morning say the two occupants are lucky to be alive.
“Very lucky,” Coldstream Fire Rescue chief David Sturgeon told Global News.
Sturgeon said the single vehicle accident happened just before 4:30 a.m. on Kalamalka Lake Road in Coldstream.
The driver of the car lost control, hit a power pole and then struck a tree.
The impact was so severe, it ripped off the front end of the vehicle, which ended up in the adjacent Cenotaph Park.
“When we first arrived, we definitely expected severe injuries and extrication to be involved,” Sturgeon said. “We were surprised when we gained access into the cab of the vehicle, there were no occupants inside.”
The vehicle’s occupants had managed to walk away from the car crash.
The extent of their injuries is unknown.
Kalamalka Lake Road was closed for three hours before opening up to single alternating traffic.
While no cause has been determined, Sturgeon said speed is being considered as a possible factor.
