Small plane carrying 2 crashes into wooded area in Lunenburg County, N.S.

RCMP say a small, single-engine plane carrying two people crashed into trees earlier Wednesday in Lunenburg County.

According to police, emergency officials learned at about 12:30 p.m. that a Cessna aircraft crashed in a wooded area Wednesday in Italy Cross, N.S. near Italy Cross Road.

The Italy Cross-Middlewood Fire Department, EHS and Lunenburg County RCMP responded.

Police say preliminary investigation determined the plane had taken off from a nearby lake, experienced difficulties and crashed into the heavily-wooded area.

Two people were inside and were able to walk after the crash, police say, and were treated on scene for non-life threatening injuries.

The Transportation and Safety Board has been contacted.

Members of RCMP are still on scene and the investigation is ongoing.
