Less than three years after the manufacturing plant was shuttered, the new owners of the former Kellogg Canada Inc. buildings in east London will shed light on the property’s future.
A news conference is scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday where Tillsonburg-based E&E McLaughlin will unveil the first phase of its redevelopment plan. They will be joined by officials with Tourism London.
E&E McLaughlin, which specializes in warehousing and logistics, filed a re-zoning application with the city last month to revamp the existing buildings on Dundas Street and Kellogg Lane for a mix of residential, commercial and light-industrial uses.
According to the planning justification proposal, the plan is being envisioned as a mixed-use, pedestrian-oriented, main street-style area on the ground floor, with other uses such as offices, commercial schools and/or residential on the upper floors. There is already 90,000 square feet of office space with adequate parking available on the site.
The application took into consideration the city of London Official Plan, the London Plan and city bylaws.
A community meeting is expected to be held in Old East Village before a public participation meeting will be scheduled for a future planning and environment committee meeting.
The former Kellogg’s manufacturing facility opened in 1913 but was closed in December 2014 when the jobs were moved to the United States and 467 people here were put out of work.
