A Trent Hills, Ont., teenager died in a car crash on Friday night, a day before her 20th birthday.
Peterborough County OPP were called around 9 p.m. to assist a collision along County Road 45 just north the village of Hastings.
Police say a passerby noticed a car that had rolled into the ditch. Police discovered the driver had been ejected from the vehicle. She was airlifted to a Toronto-area trauma centre with grave injuries.
The following day, Cassidey Rae Ouellette, 19, of Trent Hills, died of her injuries, OPP said.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
In a Facebook post on Saturday evening, Ouellette’s mother Christine Milligan, of Warkworth, said the last 22 hours have been a “parent’s worst nightmare.”
“Cassidey was a high spirit, fun loving daughter,” wrote Milligan. “I want to thank the first responders, OPP, Campbellford hospital and Sunnybrook for all the care they gave Cassidey. Cassidey made it known and we as parents for the last time supported her in her decision to donate her organs. Cass was very lucky she will be able to save up to 8 lives.”
