Police in York region investigating hate-motivated graffiti

York Regional Police are seeking information from the public after two hate-motivated messages were among several instances of graffiti found in Newmarket and Aurora in the last week.

An image posted on Facebook Tuesday by Crime Stoppers York Region shows the phrase “No Islam” spray-painted on a road sign.

Police say that vandalism occurred in the area of Aurora Heights Drive and Haida Drive in Aurora on the night of June 9 or early the next morning.

Four other instances of graffiti done in a similar colour of paint in the Newmarket area were reported to police on June 8 and 9.

“Each of those incidents had different messages, one of those being hate-motivated,” Const. Andy Pattenden of York Regional Police said.

Police are asking anyone with information to call or reach out to Crime Stoppers.
