A crew of about 20 firefighters helped contain a wildfire that broke out dangerously close to hotels in the resort community of Whistler.
The fire is now considered “held,” which means they don’t expect it to grow.

Resident Chris Kent said the slow but swiftly growing wildfire on Blackcomb Mountain was “probably the closest I’ve ever seen a wildfire to buildings in Whistler in my 27 years living here.”
Firefighters were initially called to the scene around 6 p.m. Sunday.
“We needed to keep it small and we needed to hammer it with as many resources as we could,” Fire Protection Officer Rob Dombowsky said.

Among those resources was a high-pressure water line set up by Whistler/Blackcomb staff, which helped stop the fire in its path as they waited for support.
The fire is believed to be human-caused.
