A tentative deal has been reached between Gentek Building Products and its unionized workers.
Around 150 workers went on strike Saturday, rejecting an offer that included a two per cent annual wage increase.
At the time, union reps said the issue was not money but respect. Unifor Local 27 president Jim Reid said senior workers at the window and siding manufacturer were being laid off while junior workers were kept on, workers faced mandatory overtime without notice and that there were concerns over the treatment of disabled workers.
Reid would not go into details about the tentative agreement, but confirmed to AM980 that it addressed all of their concerns.
“Fortunately this is a relatively, fairly short work disruption but I think it was an important battle to take on. I’m very optimistic that the workers will be back in the workplace by Friday.”
The union members will vote on a deal Thursday at 2 p.m.
