The legal saga surrounding Tim Hortons Field continues to drag on.
Hamilton Mayor Fred Eisenberger says that despite “good faith” efforts to resolve the situation, involved parties “have been unable to reach a resolution.”
The next step is to submit statements of defence, which the city plans to do early this summer.
The mayor adds that while he’s “disappointed,” he remains confident of the city’s position in litigation, and is committed to ensuring that no additional costs are passed on to Hamilton taxpayers.
Eisenberger notes that the city put $60 million into construction of a stadium “on the basis of an agreement to get a fully functioning stadium and on time, and both of those issues were not delivered as per the agreement.”
The lawsuit pits the City of Hamilton and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats against Infrastructure Ontario and the consortium responsible for construction of Tim Hortons Field.
The mayor acknowledges that “litigation could drag on for years.”
